Detailed installation instructions. Right after the presentation on September 10, Apple released the Golden Master version of iOS 14. The released assembly is actually final. In most cases, the GM version of iOS is fully consistent with the final build. This means that anyone can install the final version of iOS 14 right now. How to install the GM version of iOS 14 was described in this instruction.
What does Golden Master mean?
Golden Master is a pre-release build of the operating system, which is traditionally released about a week before the final version. Most often, the GM version is completely identical to the final one. It fixes all detected bugs, refines the smallest details in the system and all functions work as they should.
Why is Apple releasing such special GM builds? Thanks to them, the company is testing the final build of the new version of iOS on a large number of users. Typically, GM versions of iOS are tested not only by developers, but also by many users. That is why Apple is able to collect data on the operation of the firmware from an impressive number of devices.
In most cases, the GM version is stable. Over the past five years, there has not been a single case where the GM assembly was different from the final one.
In other words, installing iOS 14 is actually available to those who want it right now. You do not need to wait a week before the final version! However, you will have to use the developer profile to install.
